Dr Moghal is a paediatrician and paediatric nephrologist who spent over 15 years as a consultant in Newcastle, where he led the tertiary level regional paediatric nephrology service. He transformed its primary purpose from one focused on delivering the various facets that define a renal service to one focused on preventing children reaching dialysis, achieving one of the highest pre-emptive transplant rates for a paediatric population – by redesigning the system of care, and spending no money. Forever wanting to improve the experience and outcomes for patients, he completed his MBA. This led to a fellowship at the NHS Institute, where he had the privilege of learning from the great minds at the Institute of Healthcare in Boston. As a quality improvement advisor, he has worked to improve and transform a wide range of services extending from a substance misuse community-based practice and a failing paediatric surgical ward, through to the flow of work in a super tertiary centre. He is passionate about delivering excellent clinical outcomes and a great patient experience, be it for the mother of a premature baby or the frail and elderly grandmother and her family; we will all be patients one day.
